Global American Transport LLC (GAT) is a Chicago-based, with a satellite office in Athens Greece, privately-owned global commodities trading and logistics company, member of SAM and BIMCO, D-U-N-S #117014211.

GAT’s primary focus is on serving independent dry bulk commodity trading firms and their in-house shipping and chartering operations.

GAT integrates its clients shipping requirements with our dynamic operational proprietary systems. Our goal is to attain maximum competitiveness and operational efficiency in delivering superior results to our worldwide clientele.

Management Team

Dimitri Syllantavos (CEO)

Dimitri is the co-founder as well as President and CEO of Global American Transport. He has over 25 years experience in the transportation & maritime industry, especially in the areas of commodities trading, chartering, ship investment, vessel ownership and acquisition / disposal, along with extensive corporate finance knowledge, as CEO of Vortex Maritime, a firm based in Chicago, Illinois. He began his career in 1986 in the US in the field of management consulting and by 2000 he had spent 10 years as Managing Director of International Resources, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in the aviation and shipping industries. Between 1996 and 2004, he served as a member of the Investment Committee of Rand Brothers & Co., a US-based merchant banking firm, specializing in industrial M&A, LBOs and other types of corporate finance activities. From 1998–2010, Dimitri served as Investment Officer of a major Athens-based private shipping company and was responsible for sourcing, structuring, operating and divesting various shipping transactions.
Todd Massey (CFO)

Todd is Chief Financial Officer, as well as member of board of directors. Since 2008 Todd has also served as CFO and board member in Vortex Maritime. He has over 30 years experience in corporate and project finance, business development and mergers & acquisitions. Prior to joining Vortex, he served as President & CFO of Handy Industries from 2002–2008. In 1989, he founded and served as President of Rand Brothers & Co., a private merchant banking firm that specialized in M&A, LBOs, financing, and business strategy. He started his career at Grant Thornton, working at their Chicago offices from 1986 until 1988. Todd also owns a privately-held real estate development and brokerage company.
Bob Kurtz (COO)

Bob is the Chief Operating Officer, and has been with GAT since its inception. He has over 40 years experience in operations, maintenance, quality assurance, fleet planning and asset acquisitions. Prior to joining GAT, he worked for numerous owners and operators in a variety of senior management positions in the United States and Asia. Bob started his career in maintenance program development and support engineer for the U.S. Navy following completion of his studies where he received a B.S. in Engineering and M.S in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
Leon Kyrris (Legal Dpt.)

Leon is the Director, Legal & Insurance Department. He is a seasoned lawyer (Cardiff Qualified) as well as shipping manager that has worked closely with owners and operators in Greece and the United Kingdom (Nikator Navigation, Sealight Maritime Ltd, The London Club, etc.), in a variety of departments, with special emphasis in the chartering and the charter-party related disputes, all within the dry bulk sector. His love and devotion comes partially from his family’s strong sector tradition as well as his extensive personal industry network, coupled with his 20-plus years of experience in the maritime claims and insurance knowledge. Leon received his LLB from Athens University and his LLM from the University of Wales.
